Liora and I had our first conversation over the phone the very week she was arriving in Tucson, Arizona. We were BOTH awkward yet immediately hit if off. It helps to admit that it’s sometimes difficult to talk to a complete stranger over the phone for the first time. We laughed and that broke the ice. She was in town for the weekend to see her boyfriend…they live on complete opposite sides of the country. Crazy!!! Liora is currently in college and is IN LOVE with photography…you can check her artwork out HERE. Eric & I met her on a Sunday morning for breakfast at the ‘oh so yummy’ Blue Willow. We talked shop, business, life, and told each other a bunch of silly stories. It was great. Our meet up was quite short though as the restaurant had a packed list of people waiting…it’s quite popular (you should check it out). As we parted and drove away I remember thinking what a pure DELIGHT she was to meet!. A breathe of fresh air really.
As we arrived home I took a look at her website. I admit I always always always go to the ‘about me’ section first. I wanna see the face who’s behind the camera and artwork. But Liora’s portrait was no where to be found. I can’t tell you how important it is to have a personal photo on your website…especially with an artist. Words can describe you, but a photograph creates the connection. So I opened my email and sent her a quick note. Since she was still in town for a few days I invited her to meet up with us after a me2 portrait session so we could do a mini shoot for fun. Liora cheerfully accepted. We met at the UofA and strolled around a few of our favorite MODERN buildings…ok like one. It’s a good one though. All I need is a slick concrete wall and I’m happy as a peach, clam, whatever.
Liora it was so wonderful to meet you and we can’t wait to further our friendship. See you in March!

Meet the Yousey’s! Chuck, Yadelle and lil Miss Mia. We’ve known each other for several years now and this is their 3rd session with Purple Nickel Studio!!! WOO HOO. We LOVE LOVE LOVE that we continue to photograph our past clients. Funny story….we were first introduced to this AMAZING family by another friend after he mentioned that they lived just across the street from us. Seriously. Yep. Chuck is also an incredible Architect (Owner of DBF) and both our families are currently remodeling our 1950’s homes….MODERN STYLE ALL THE WAY!!!! We met when Eric & I asked to see their home to compare it to our layout (yes we wanted to snoop….this was before we started our HUGE demo). After seeing their home we knew instantly that we had to open up our low plaster ceiling and expose the pitched roof as they did…click HERE if you wanna see our progress. Boy if we only knew what we were getting ourselves into. But it has made all the difference in the space and I couldn’t be happier. Now we sort of have a friendly competition on who can finish their remodel first or at least get it to an enjoyable state. Yadelle knows exactly what I’m talking about. Oh YES she does!
We are so HONORED that they asked us to photography their family again. Mia is growing up so fast and is FULL of personality. All you have to do is ask her to laugh and she does. It’s fabulous and quite hilarious. I hope this sneak peek holds you guys over for a little while…as I’m editing your session I am continuiously cracking up at all of her little quirky expressions.
As Mia would say…’BOOMSHACKALACKA’!

Last Sunday Eric & I took a short little trip down to Bisbee, Arizona for a very special photoshoot! Karen secretly contacted us about doing a flipside session as a gift to Chris for their Anniversary. We LOVE surprises! After meeting them for the first time we knew exactly where the session should take place. They have such an eclectic taste and Bisbee (an old mining town) seemed to fit their personalites to a T. They were up for the mini trip and so were we. Its been a year since I’ve photographed there and several years for Eric. It was nice to have a change of scenery and weather. We had a blast venturing around the rustic town and getting to know Karen and Chris better. We hope this lil sneak peek keeps Chris on her toes for what’s to come…

After the shoot Eric & I ate at this delicious Mexican Restaurant called ‘Santiago’s Mexican‘. Their Green Corn Tamales & Carne Asada were ROCKIN. If you’re ever visiting the area check out some of the great little spots to eat and shop…they have the cutest antique stores and cafes.

You might be asking yourself right about now ‘how the heck did they get another gig with DL?’. On a side note: Yes there are two different Hatch families (no relation). We tend to attract the same first & last names with our clients…SERIOUSLY…I’m not kidding. It’s eerie but kinda cool!
