We make connections in the darnest ways! Two years ago we met Darci + Dale while scouring Craig’s List. Yep, that’s right. We were adding a few key pieces to our new work studio and found a killer white tulip table. Little did we know we’d meet up with one of the coolest couples we’ve ever met. Walking into their home we immediately made a connection. They were gutting it (as were we), flipping it DIY style (as were we), had vintage furniture all over the place and they’re both architects!!! Yeah we were a bit in heaven. After talking shop we gladly purchased our table, exchanged business cards and stayed loosely in contact. Fast forward to a few months ago when we received an email from Darci explaining her challenge of finding a photographer for their very low key wedding shindig. Or as they called it the ‘Ha|Ru I DO’. We met over drinks and good grub to see if we could help them out. We could! WAIT… WHAT??? Yes we photographed a wedding. Their event was a very very very good exception to our rule…
The day before the wedding they invited all their closest friends and family to a ‘Field to Fork’ dinner hosted at the lovely Los Pablanos Historic Inn and Organic Farm. And of course we photographed the two of them before hand!
The next day we all trekked two hours into the Jemez Mountains where Darci + Dale have camped for many years. We thought this was so clever. A way to reserve their special spot out in the woods by claiming it as a reunion. Well it pretty much was!
We can’t thank you enough for making us feel welcomed and for continuing to inspire another couple who’s also passionate about their craft and relationship. Here’s to being more like you!
A few weeks ago we had the opportunity of photographing C + E… no not us silly, Chelsea and Eric. When they approached us awhile back and asked to get shot, we were completely honored and maybe a little giddy. We’ve known Chelsea (who is also a fantastic portrait photographer) for years, we’re also her LOUDEST cheerleader. So we knew we had to pull out the big guns for this session and take advantage of their killer fashion skillz. Photographing friends is the BESTEST!
We’ve teased them enough with our instagram shots so without further a-due… Below is a sampling of our morning spent on Mount Lemmon.
Here’s what Chelsea and Eric had to say about their experience with us…
“Working with Eric and Casia was fantastic! We have zero complaints (and we tried hard to think of one). They are super friendly people and they totally understood us and what we wanted in our photos. Being in front of the camera can always be awkward, but not with PN . We just had fun the whole time! Not only us, but anyone who saw the photos afterwards were blown away. We can’t wait to do it again! Next time with our matching turtleneck outfits.”
Everyone meet Elizabeth + Myles. They were gonna make the trip to Tucson from Phoenix for their engagement shoot but we all decided to meet in the middle instead. This ‘no-where’ place between our two cities is becoming a favorite. When we first met E + M last summer, we knew right away their portraits were going to be heartfelt. Boy did they deliver. The day was full of emotion yet completely chill. They were especially natural in front of the lens which is sooooooooo rewarding. And as an added bonus, Myles drove his grandfather’s Harley down…. SCORE.
We are so happy for you two and are honored to have shared a piece of your big day!
And… the badass Harley!
Here’s what Elizabeth and Myles had to say about their experience with us…
“The first time I saw the eclectic photography of Purple Nickel, I knew that I was going to book them for my engagement session. I was so pleasantly surprised to see in our first meeting how cool, interesting, and easy-going Eric + Casia actually are. They were so courteous and engaging in all our pre + post session meetings, and it was great to see that attention to detail carried through the actual engagement photo shoot. But I think what made the experience so amazing was how well Eric + Casia were able to show who we really are through our photographs. Nothing felt cheesy, forced, or uncomfortable and they constantly encouraged us to bring our own creativity to the table. Everything from their location choice, use of natural lighting, and even the tiny quips they said to make us give genuine smiles made the end result look and feel exactly like “us.” They are an amazing photography duo and you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone with their talent, sincerity, and dedication anywhere else. So, thanks, for the amazing photographs and experience.”
